bullmastiffs - about these pagesHi and welcome to bullyonline.com This is the brand new cyber home of Zammit Hot Stone and Youphoria Dream Maker, or Oscar and Eric as you will come to know them. Ideally, these pages are an improvement on the old site, though hopefully retaining the same flavour and portraying the same message that owning, or being owned by a Bullmastiff can, and should be full of fun and an enrichment to your lives.

As for ourselves, we have always had dogs, the bigger the better, although this was something we gave up with the loss of our dog and the impending arrival of children. Had we known then, what we know now, we would have had a Bullmastiff grow up with the children.

Three years ago, we decided that as the children were now old and responsible enough, we would have a dog again, and after a long search settled on a male Japanese Akita, Cho, who although very hard work was a real delight and great with the children. A better friend and protector you couldn't wish for. At about 9 months of age I began to feel that all was not well with him. After a long illness, and many totally unnecessary operations carried out by an unscrupulous vet, Cho was finally diagnosed as having Leukemia. At seventeen months, we decided to do the kindest thing.

I decided that another dog straight away was what was needed. The family didn't agree and wanted to wait. I won the battle and off we went to look at all the breeds of character. I had always liked the look of the Bullmastiff, but have to confess, I knew absolutely nothing about them. However, we saw the Akita again ( too upsetting ), the Mastiff, the Neapolitan Mastiff, and many others,  nothing really took me though, and so we carried on looking. We had driven hundreds of miles in the search for the right dog, and the first Bullmastiff breeder on our list was enough to put us off for life. The second was not six miles from home. We arrived at the second breeder, and were lucky enough to meet two cracking males. There was one bitch and two males left available. There was no contest. We went away to think about it, away from temptation, so that we could be objective, and it wasn't long before we were back. To cut a long story short, Oscar,  became an integral member of the family. Despite early trepidations about the true nature of a Bullmastiff, Oscar has turned out to be a perfect gentleman. Inherently gentle, laid back, loyal, easily trained, obedient, perfect manners, instant house training, yet still contriving to be the ultimate protector. Completely and utterly trustworthy with children, what more could anybody ask for. The ongoing story of Oscar is told elsewhere. See Oscars diary.

Over the next few months we made a lot of good friends in the Bullmastiff world, one of them, went on to have a litter some 14 months later, and to cut another long story short, a brother for Oscar, in the shape of the most dynamic bundle of trouble and fun, Eric joined the family. A completely different character to Oscar, still completely trustworthy with the children, Eric is on fire. Into everything, life is a game. Incredibly fit, agile and built like a Panzer tank. Where Oscar is gentle, Eric is rambunctious, cheeky, teasing, mischievous to the point of being a naughty child, yet great fun to have around. See Eric's diary.
